What Is a Quadra Fire Pellet Stove?

Quadra Fire is one of the leading producers of premium quality pellet stoves on the market today. They produce a wide variety of products from wood pellet stoves to traditional wood stoves to inserts. For this article we will focus specifically on one Quadra Fire pellet stove—the Classic Bay 1200. This is a versatile and user-friendly pellet stove that could be a perfect choice as either a primary heating source for your home or additional heat in general.

Like most pellet stoves on the market, the Quadra Fire pellet stove works by burning wood pellets. These pellets are made from varying types of wood particulate and sawdust that is left over from the production of wood products. This recycled wood is compressed into small chunks measuring about a quarter-inch in width and varying in length from around an inch to a half-inch. These pellets are packaged into 40-pound bags and sold commercially through hardware stores and heating retailers.

To operate the Quadra Fire pellet stove one or more bags of pellets are poured into a holding receptacle at the top of the stove called a hopper. A small quantity of these pellets, about a handful or so, are then released from the hopper down into a firebox that is visible through glass windows at the front of the stove. Depending on the model, this handful of pellets is ignited either with an automatic ignition system or manually using flammable gel and a fire source.

Once the initial flame is alight and burning consistently, the pellet stove is fully engaged. At this time pellets will be automatically dropped from the hopper down into the firebox to keep the flame burning. Fans within the stove chamber will both fan the flame and also push the warm air within the stove out into the room. The speed at which the pellets drop onto the flame is set by the user controls on the Quadra Fire pellet stove.

A fast rate of pellet feed into the flame will create a larger flame and also more heat. A slower feed will alternatively create a smaller flame and less heat. With some higher end pellet stoves the heat and pellet feed can be controlled automatically with an onboard thermostat. Programmable units allow the user to set specific heats for certain times of day and even create heating programs that will continue over the course of an entire week.

Though pellet stoves are much more efficient and easier to clean than wood stoves, they do require some routine maintenance. An easy to access ash tray on the Quadra Fire pellet stove must be emptied periodically to avoid overflows. The glass on the front of the stove may also require occasional wipe-downs with a damp cloth and some glass cleaner.

With a bit of very minimal maintenance and effort, a Quadra Fire pellet stove can provide the heat and ambiance of a wood-burning stove without the need to handle cord wood or clean lots of ash.

The 4840 wall mounted direct vent pellet stove marks a smaller entry to this list of pellet stoves. This is in a different class to the Quadra Fire pellet stove but could be an ideal choice for some looking to add heat to a small space. It only puts out a maximum of 24,000 BTU and has a heating area of around 1,000 square feet. If you're interested in warming an entire home, then this may not be the right choice, but there are some big upsides.

First and foremost, this unit is very compact. As a wall mounted unit, it takes up far less space than most other units on the market. It vents directly through the wall using the included mounted and venting equipment. With a digital display, this is also a very easy unit to set up and operate. This stove wouldn't be the right choice for someone who needs to heat a huge area for a long time, but for a little added heat and ambiance without taking up much space it could be a perfect selection.

With 55,000 BTUs of heating power and a 2,500 square foot heating range, this pellet stove could be large enough to heat an entire home.

The feature that sets this pellet stove apart from the pack is its massive pellet hopper. At 120 pounds of capacity, this is one of the largest pellet hoppers on the market. At a low setting the hopper provides enough pellets to burn for a full 70 hours at a time. This is also a highly efficient stove and has an EPA rated 85% efficiency. This means that the pellets are incinerated to 86% completion leaving very little ash and particulate behind.

This pellet stove could be a great choice for someone looking to add a big, powerful, and long-burning stove to their home and doesn't need a lot of added bells and whistles.

The Castle 12327 Serenity pellet stove is also a smaller option compared with the Quadra Fire pellet stove. This is not a huge amount of power for the unit's large footprint and it also has an average size hopper at 40 pounds.

What this stove may lack in heating power it makes up in ease-of-use. It has a fully digital user interface and an internal thermostat that is largely programmable. Users can set a different programmed heating pattern for 24 hours over seven days. This could be a huge benefit to users that intend to burn this stove for long periods of time but also lead a busy lifestyle.

This programmability coupled with an 85% EPA efficiency rating makes this unit a great selection for someone who needs consistent heat but doesn't want to run the stove too hot and waste pellets. Adding a pellet stove to your home can bring the charm and warmth of a classic wood stove with a fraction of the effort and upkeep. The Quadra Fire pellet stove excels not only in heating power and ease-of-use but also offers a lot of aesthetic value. The bay window style front section brings the flame into full view throughout a room like few other pellet stoves on the market.

This unit doesn't have the largest pellet hopper on the market, so you may need to refill it more quickly. That said, this is a big and powerful stove that will heat a large space with no struggle. If you're in the market for a pellet stove that won't take up too much space but has all the power to serve as the primary heat source for a small or medium home, this Quadra Fire pellet stove is worth a close look.

The Quadra Flame Classic Bay 1200 stove earned top marks in our review for its excellent balance of features and size. It's on the higher end in terms of price, but we think you'll see the value in this stove. It can easily warm a large space without dominating a whole room, and the large bay windows will give you the pleasure of a fire without the poking, stoking and prodding.
